Adult Services

Adult Services includes information and resources aimed primarily at adults and young adults.  Adult Services includes reference to help patrons locate information, reader's advisory services to help patrons with reading suggestions and programs which educate and entertain.

REFERENCE

Reference Service

When you have questions, ask a librarian!  Librarians can find answers to informational questions, help you with research, and locate books and other materials that you request. You can ask a reference question in person, by phone, or via email.

Reference Databases
The Batavia Public Library subscribes to a variety of reference databases.  These databases are available within the library on the library’s computers and from outside the library to Batavia Public Library cardholders who may access the databases by logging in with their library card number and PIN.  View a list of the reference databases or log in with a Batavia Public Library card number and PIN.

Interlibrary Loan
If you are interested in borrowing an item not owned by the Batavia Public Library, we will do our best to locate a copy that can be loaned to you.  This service is only available to Batavia Public Library cardholders.  You can make your request in person at the Reference Desk or look at the following page for more information on making your request online.

eMediaLibraryeMediaLibrary Audiobooks
Download best-selling digital audiobooks 24/7 to your PC at home, in the office, or from anywhere in the world. You can transfer titles to your portable device and many can be burned to CD to listen on the go. Batavia Public Library provides patrons with access to more than a thousand downloadable audiobooks through eMediaLibrary. Please click here for details. This service replaces ListenIllinois.

READER'S ADVISORY

We can assist you in finding books to read or listen to in different formats, such as books on tape, books on compact disk and e-books.  If you have a particular author in mind or if you need reading suggestions, please ask us.  We have reader's advisory resources which can help locate your next reading choice.  One of the electronic resources, Novelist, is an excellent reader's advisory resource for fiction for all age groups.  If you're looking for some ideas from our new books area, try Good Reads & Views.books

PROGRAMS

Ongoing monthly programs are offered at Batavia Public Library.  These regularly scheduled programs include the Writer's Workshop and Creative Fix a monthly craft support group.  Additional programs are scheduled throughout the year.
