Policy on Conduct
Library Code of Conduct

The Batavia Public Library District is dedicated to providing patrons the right to use its materials and services without being disturbed or impeded, and to providing all people a comfortable environment.

Therefore, the following code of conduct has been established:

  1. In the effort to maintain a quiet and supportive environment
    1. Patrons are asked to respect the rights of other library users by keeping conversations quiet.
    2. Patrons using cell phones at any length are requested to move their conversations to the lobby area.
    3. Activity within the library should remain calm and appropriate.
  2. Only covered beverages may be brought beyond the lobby area.
  3. Library users are permitted to eat in the coffee shop or in designated meeting rooms. No food is allowed in the book stack areas, reading rooms or computer labs.
  4. Patrons will be asked to adhere to the time limits established for use of library computers to ensure equal access to resources.
  5. A parent or responsible person should remain within sight of young children at all times.
