Library Clerical Assistant (Circulation Services)

The Batavia Public Library has one opening for a Library Clerical Assistant. We are seeking energetic individuals who possess an eye for details and enjoy creating an organized environment.
Responsibilities: Library Clerical Assistants accurately check in books and other materials, maintain the collection by shelving, shelf-reading, and straightening books and other materials in a timely and accurate manner.
The work schedule is an average of 8-15 hours per week in increments of 3 to 4 hours per shift. Schedules include weekday, evening, and weekend hours.
Qualifications: Required: A minimum of three years of high school or the equivalent. The ability to stand, bend, reach, squat, and push carts filled with books. Applicants must successfully complete a shelving exercise during the interview process.
Preferred: Avid library users are encouraged to apply! Prior Library experience is desirable.
Compensation: Salary is $9.00 per hour.

Circulation Clerk (Circulation Services)

The Batavia Public Library has openings for two Circulation Clerks. We are seeking public service oriented individuals who enjoy people, a fast paced environment, and working hard.
Responsibilities: Circulation Clerks assist patrons with all circulation issues, including materials check in and checkout, respond to questions, accept payments made on patron accounts, process patron holds, evaluate condition of materials, route materials to the appropriate places, refer patrons to other departments as appropriate, assist fellow staff members as needed, answer the library telephone, solve problems, perform shelf checks, help to maintain the physical collection (shelving, shelf-reading, etc.), and handle other duties as assigned. The work schedule is an average of 8.5-15 hours per week in increments of 4.25 hours per shift. Schedules include weekdays, evenings, and weekend hours.
Qualifications: Required: Computer experience and high school diploma. Ability to stand, bend, reach, squat, and push carts filled with books. Applicants must successfully complete a shelving exercise during the interview process. Attention to detail is a must.
Preferred: College degree or some college coursework. Previous library experience or customer service experience is desirable. Avid library users are encouraged to apply!

Youth Services Librarian
Part Time (2010) (see work schedule)
Batavia Public Library District, located in the beautiful Fox River valley west of Chicago, seeks a friendly, outgoing, energetic, innovative and creative librarian to join our Youth Services team. Batavia serves a district population of 25,723 from a large (54,000 square feet) facility that opened in 2002.
Responsibilities: This position requires excellent customer service skills. Professional duties include reference and readers’ advisory services, collection development, as well as planning and implementing programs in a department serving children age 0-14. Schedule currently includes two evenings and weekend rotation averaging 12 hours per week.
Qualifications: Required: MLS or equivalent with 2-3 years’ experience in a public library; demonstrated commitment to Youth Services; knowledge of literature and topics of interest to youth; and who has excellent communication skills and strong computer skills. Desired: The ideal candidate will have experience working with children ages 7-14, be able to work independently and as part of a team and be tactful and good-humored.
Compensation: Hourly salary from $19.00, depending on qualifications.
