Part Time Technology Reference Assistant (Adult Services)

Non-exempt position - Salary grade 5


The Batavia Public Library District seeks a Part Time Technology Reference Assistant to join our Adult Services team. The Batavia Public Library District serves a population of over 26,000 from a large (54,000 square feet) facility that opened in 2002.




The Technology Reference Assistant focuses on excellent customer service to Library patrons. Responsibilities include assisting patrons with computer and equipment questions, providing individualized technology coaching, providing readers' advisory service, teaching computer clases, troubleshooting computer and equipment problems and providing directional assistance and basic reference assistance.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  1. Ability to provide consistently pleasant service to patrons and staff 
  2. Intermediate computer and technology skills, including use of the Internet and Microsoft Office programs, and digital devices (tablets, smartphones, etc.)
  3. Ability to create customized technology coaching lesson plans
  4. Familiarity with current popular fiction and nonfiction
  5. Ability to teach computer classes
  6. Ability to learn appropriate computer and equipment applications and appropriate troubleshooting techniques
  7. Familiarity with basic reference materials
  8. Ability to work and communicate effectively in English



College diploma. Some customer service experience required.


Work Schedule:

2:45pm - 9:00pm, Tuesdays & Wednesday

11:45am - 5:00pm, alternating Sundays

Occasional weekday morning hours



From $13.78 to $14.65, depending on experience
