Part Time Home Delivery Library Assistant (Adult Services)

Non-exempt position - Salary grade 5

 

The Batavia Public Library District seeks a Part Time Home Delivery Library Assistant to join our Adult Services team. The Batavia Public Library District serves a population of over 26,000 from a large (54,000 square feet) facility that opened in 2002.

 

OVERVIEW:

 

This 15-hour/week position provides library service to patrons for whom library services are inaccessible for mobility or vision reasons. The Home Delivery Library Assistant delivers materials to senior living facilities and to individuals within the library district, places requests for home delivery patrons, and monitors incoming and outgoing materials for home delivery patrons. Work hours primarily include weekday hours.

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  1. Identifies and recommends appropriate library materials for patrons, taking the physical limitations of the patron into consideration
  2. Reviews check-out lists to identify outstanding items
  3. Transports library materials using personal vehicle to service points and back to library
  4. Maintains and educates patrons wiith up-to-date knowledge of available special resources
  5. Recommends purchase of appropriate library materials to manager
  6. Promotes library image and service through community relationships
  7. Performs narrow range of clerical duties in support of the Homebound function, including light typing, filing and copying
  8. Performs other duties as assigned or required

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of high school degree required. Previous work experience in a library and a college degree is preferred.
  2. Prior work experience in a public services environment, specifically experience working with senior citizens and people with special needs
  3. Must display a compassionate, tactful, resoureful and good-humored demeanor
  4. Must possess a valid Illinois Driver's License and proof of valid auto insurance

Physical Requirements:

 

Speaking, hearing and vision ability sufficient to adequately perform the job, ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally. Duties will require employee to bend, stoop and reach above shoulder level routinely.

 

Working Conditions:

 

Work is primarily performed in a typical library environment. Occasionally required to work in inclement weather conditions. Occasionally required to work some weekend and evening shifts.

 

Work Schedule:

2 weekdays typically 9am to 5pm

Occasional weekday morning hours

Salary:

 

From $13.78 to $14.65, depending on experience

Promotional Services Manager

Exempt level position - Salary grade 8

 

Batavia Public Library District seeks and experienced, creative, innovative, energetic, and service-oriented leader for its Promotional Services Department, which is responsible for all aspcts of public relations, marketing, and communications. Image is everything!

 

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Library Director, this full-time position supervises one full-time Graphic Designer/Webmaster; manages the day-to-day public relations, marketing, graphic image, and communication operations of the Library; oversees all promotional-related activities; interacts with customers and the community to create a favorable impression of library services; and serves as a member of the Library's Management Team. Addisional areas of responsibility (some in collaboration with others) include publications (brochures, print and electronic newsletters, posters, etc), public-service announcements, news releases, and advertisements, graphical and editorial standards and style guides, displays and exhibits, signs, special events and projects including joint activities with other community organizations; and  Web-site and social media design and content. The work schedule may include occasional evenings and weekends, as needed.

 

Requirements: The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree from a college or university of recognized standing in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field, as well as 3+ years of responsible, successful experience in a related position. Preferred: Supervisory experience and experience working for a library, not-for-profit, or service organization. Desirable: A flexible, fun-loving, well-organized, tactful, resourceful, and good-humored person.

 

Compensation: Starting salary is negoatiable from $40,000 and will depend upon qualifications and experience; generous benefits package.

Circulation Services Manager

A retirement announcement has created this exciting management opportunity with the Batavia Public Library District! We seek an experienced, energetic, and service-oriented leader with a keen eye for detail and a patient demeanor for its Circulation Services Department.

 

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Library Director, this full-time position oversees the day-to-day operations of the Circulation Services Department and is responsible for all related activities in the Library, as well as for creating a climate of friendly and efficient customer service. You will supervise and train department employees; interact with patrons and the community at large to create a favorable impression of library service and Batavia Public Library as a whole. This position also participates as a member of the Library's Management Team. The work schedule may include evenings and weekends as necessary.

 

Requirements: The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree from a college or university of recognized standing and five years of progressively responsible and successful experience in a customer service position, preferably in a public library. Preferred: Prior management training or experience; proven supervisory experience; and extensive experience with integrated library systems. Desirable: Master's degree in library and information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association, and a person who is flexible, fun-loving, well organized, tactful, resourceful, and good-humored.

 

Compensation: Starting salary is negotiable from $47,000 and will depend upon qualifications and experience; generous benefits package is offered.
