Part Time Technology Reference Assistant (Adult Services)

Non-exempt position - Salary grade 5


The Batavia Public Library District seeks a Part Time Technology Reference Assistant to join our Adult Services team. This individual will focus on excellent customer services to Library patrons. Primary responsibilities include assisting patrons with computer and equipment questions, teaching computer classes, providing individualized computer coaching, providing readers' advisory service, troubleshooting computer and equipment problems and providing directional assistance and basic reference assistance.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:


  1. Ability to provide consistently pleasant service to patrons and staff 
  2. Intermediate computer skills, including use of the Internet and Microsoft Office programs
  3. Ability to teach computer classes to students of all ages and skill levels
  4. Ability to create customized computer coaching lesson plans
  5. Familiarity with current popular fiction and nonfiction titles and authors
  6. Ability to learn appropriate computer and equipment applications and appropriate troubleshooting techniques
  7. Familiarity with basic reference materials
  8. Ability to work and communicate effectively in English
  9. Ability to interact with all Library patrons with patience and understanding



Bachelor's-level college degree with emphasis in business, computer science or library science required. Some face-to-face customer service experience also necessary.


Work Schedule:


2:45pm - 9:00pm, Tuesdays & Wednesdays

11:45am - 5:00pm, alternating Sundays

Occasional weekday morning hours



From $13.78 to $14.65, depending on experience

Assistant Circulation Services Manager (Circulation Services)

Exempt position - Salary grade 7


The Batavia Public Library has an opening for an Assistant Manager in our Circulation Services Department. We are seeking a degreed, library professional to assist the Circulation Services Manager in planning, organizing and implementing programs and services that meet the goals of the Circulation Services Department, the Library and to satisfy the needs of the community and our patrons. This individual will also provide leadership and guidance to the department in the absence of the Circulation Services Manager.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:


Ability to analyze and interpret data to produce and implement process improvements to meet the needs of Library staff and patrons;

Interview, hire, train and review Circulation Pages; assist with hiring other Circulation staff;

Plan and conduct quarterly Page staff meetings;

Review and submit timesheets for Circulation staff on bi-weekly basis;

Prepare Circulation's monthly reports & statistics for monthly Library Board meetings;

Possess the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work independently as well as part of the Circulation team;

Must demonstrate excellent supervisory, time management and organizational skills;

Possess excellent computer skills in a Windows environment including the use of Word, Excel, Outlook and other Microsoft applications, the Internet, and other specialized computer applications utilized by Library staff;

Must communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing;

Ability to adapt to change and the ability to smoothly implement change;

Knowledge/aptitude to use a variety of standard office equipment and specialized Library equipment;

Ability to learn and follow Library procedures including all aspects of Circulation Services Clerk duties.




4-year degree from accredited college/university (Library Science emphasis a plus)

Minimum of 2 years' experience in a library circulation department

Minimum of 3 years' customer service experience

Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience

Knowedge of/proficiency with Sirsi Dynix ILS preferred


Compensation: From $18.26 per hour. This position is eligible for IMRF benefits plus optional medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefis


Possible Work Schedule (successful candidate must be flexible to accommodate the vicissitudes of the department):

Monday - 1:00pm - 9:00pm

Tuesday - 9:00am - 5:00pm

Wednesday - 1:00pm - 9:00pm

Friday - 8:45am - 5:00pm

Saturday - 8:45am - 5:00pm
