Batavia Public Library is a co-organizer of the Art In Your Eye Fine Arts Festival,

An Uncommon Journey: African American Art of the Twentieth Century
Monday, July 20, 7 pm
Art historian Jeff Mishur presents a lecture on a selection of African American artists, including Henry Ossawa Tanner, Aaron Douglass, Walter
Ellison, Archibald Motley, Jr., Jacob Lawrence, Faith Ringgold, and others. Several styles practiced by African American artists will be discussed within
the context of major European and American art movements, including the Harlem Renaissance, a cultural movement occurring in the U.S. between
World War I and World War II. |
Splash and Flash Watercolor
Tuesday, July 28, 7 pm Artist Suzanne Hetzel will demonstrate how to loosen up with watercolor and experiment with the medium to achieve dynamic results. She will demonstrate the techniques used for florals, landscapes, and still life, as well as how to put yourself into your work to get truly individual results.

The Modern Wing at the Art Institute of Chicago
Monday, August 3, 7 pm The recently opened Modern Wing, designed by Renzo Piano, serves as a new exhibition space for the museum’s world-renowned collection of modern and contemporary art.
This lecture will present the Modern Wing’s architecture in the context of Renzo Piano’s career and consider the new structure as part of the museum’s larger complex of
buildings. A brief overview of the art work on display in the new wing will be included, as well. Presenter Paula Wisotzki
is an adjunct lecturer, Museum Education, Art Institute of Chicago, and associate professor of Art History at Loyola University, Chicago.
