Family Storytime

Monday, March 1, 7 pm

Storytime for families with children 7 and under. Join us for stories, flannelboards and a craft. No registration required. 

 

Book Character Visit

Friday, March 12, 1 pm

Barnes & Noble Booksellers will bring Curious George to the Library for stories and activities. Don’t forget your camera! No registration required. 

 

Movie at the Library

Monday, March 29, 2 pm

Bring the whole family to watch a movie. Call the Youth Services Desk for movie title, rating, and length. No registration required. 

 

Chess Knight

Tuesday, March 30, 78 pm

Ages 8 and olderStudents, teens and adults of all skill levels are welcome. Feel free to bring your favorite chess board. No registration required. 

 

Bingo

Book Beat

Tuesday, March 9, 6 pm

Grades 4–8

Camp Half-Blood is under attack. Can Percy Jackson and his friends save it? They will have to journey into the Sea of Monsters to do so. But first, Percy befriends a rather unusual homeless kid at school. Join us for discussion and activities based on Rick Riordan’s, The Sea of Monsters, book two in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. A copy of the book may be reserved at registration beginning February 9.  

 

Middle School Mystery Night

Friday, March 12, 6:30–9:30 pm

Grades 6–8 An after-hours program for students. Activities include playing a life-size game of Clue with characters and locations based on Rick Riordan’s book, Lightning Thief. Pizza and games will round out the night’s activities. Registration required with a signed parental permission form and $3 per participant.  

 

Reading with Rover

Saturdays, March 13 and 20, 10 am–12 pm

Grades 1–4 Children are invited to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to a specially trained therapy dog. The goal of Reading with Rover is to create a positive, non-threatening and fun environment in which reading aloud is enjoyed. Register for a 20-minute time slot. Registration  required.

Grades 2–3The Bailey School kids are not quite sure what to think when a mysterious gym teacher comes to their school and their creepy room teacher, Mrs. Jeepers, does not seem to get along with him. Mother Daughter Book Chat

Students and a parent or female adult are invited to chat and enjoy activities based on the book The School Story by Andrew Clements. Twelve-year-old Natalie, a gifted writer, knows better than most how difficult it is for new authors to be published; her mother is a children’s book editor. So she’s unprepared when her best friend, Zoe, reads a few chapters of Natalie’s story and is determined to get it published. The School Story is a celebration of loyalty, love, guts and girl power! Book discussion based on the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Greg Heffley’s Journal by Jeff Kinney. Being a kid can really stink. And no one knows this better than Greg Heffley, a middle child thrust into middle school, where undersized weaklings like him share the hallways with kids who are taller, meaner, and already shaving. In this novel in cartoons, we’re introduced to an unlikely–but, ultimately, likable – hero who does his best to make it through his first year of middle school in one piece.
